Glass art is one of the most attractive art forms we have today. Shaping and designing the beautiful shining glass is a great way to showcase your art. There are various types of glass and even more ways to carve designs on them. From as primitive as inscribing design with a sharp object to modern as imprinting with a laser printer. Many forms have been created and appreciated by the artists. The technology is not widely accepted. People even consider it more technology and programming than art. But lampwork is the undisputed and one of the oldest form of glass decorating techniques.

I have always had a passion with art and when I did my first taster session in glass when studying Three Dimensional design at Manchester Metropolitan University I was hooked. Glass has the design and methodology of more conventional art and design with an added excitement and adrenaline. I have always been driven by excitemen and new experiences; glass blowing defiantly has this to offer. Everyday seems to bring new challenges, as with ever new piece of work a new obstacles and objective is alive .

Glass arts are one of the most difficult but beautiful genres of art form. The characteristic shine of the glass allows it to give a certain gloss and ambiance to the place it is kept in. Glass has an amazing elasticity that allows artists to mold it easily. This allows artists to make great shape as well as fine designs on them. Glass is available in various colors which actually adds to the existing design. The quick plasticity makes this great brittle matter a true clay for art.

Since the discovery of glass and the knowledge of its eye-catching properties, glass has become one of the most popular artistic elements. There are various techniques to make glass arts: blowing, fusing, kiln-casting, slumping, pat-de-verre, flame-working, hot-sculpting and cold working. Not all types of glass allow all types of working. So the specific type of glass should be chosen based on the specific design and molding technique.
